Underage College Drinking

College Campuses are Ground Zero for Alcohol Abuse

College campuses all over the United States have a serious problem which is underage college drinking. According to the Harvard School of Public Health College Alcohol Studies’ recent data, there was a comparison of the responses of underage drinkers who were students aged 21 to 23 years and the following was discovered:

  • Alcohol was easily obtained by half of the underage students.
  • Underage students didn’t drink often, but when they did, they drank in excess.
  • The efforts to prevent under drinking was supported by many underage students.
  • The extent of deterrent policies and college educational efforts were limited.
  • About 2 out of 5 college students took part in binge drinking (you can define binge drinking as consuming 4 drinks at once women and 5 drinks at once for men).
  • There was likely to be less drinking and binge drinking by underage students who attended colleges in states which are strict as concerns underage and high volume drinking.

Colleges are obliged to respect the MLDA (Minimum Legal Drinking Age) law and solve underage college drinking. Many parents consider this to be conflicting with colleges which proudly rank themselves as a “prestigious” Top Party School of the country.
